The UK’s both most adored and most hated twins Jedward is denied of a #1 single by American synth artist, Owl City. The Irish twins settled for a #2 spot in the UK Singles Charts last Sunday with their incredible debut single ‘Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)’.
Adam Young’s ‘Fireflies’ is at #1 for the third week in a row while Timba and Katy Perry’s collaboration, ‘If We Ever Meet Again’ jumps 14 places to #3 this week.
Second highest new entry in the top 40 belongs to current US #1 Ke$ha with her second single, ‘Blah Blah Blah’ settling at #11. Elsewhere, Marina and the Diamonds failed to get the top 10 with her official debut single, ‘Hollywood’ which settled at #12 this week.
Rihanna whose comeback single, ‘Russian Roulette’ peaked at #3 in the UK charts last year is back with her second single off ‘Rated R’, ‘Rude Boy’ cracks the top 20 at #20.
Gaga’s second single off ‘The Fame Monster’, Telephone is back in the top 40. The track which is a collaboration with Beysus peaked at #30 last year upon the release of her CD. The second single, is set for a March release in the UK.
In the albums chart, Alicia Keys reigns supreme as she gets her first UK #1 album as ‘Element of Freedom’ jumps 1 spot this week. It beaten competitions from Andre Rieu, Paolo Nutini and Florence and the Machine whose positions are #2,3,4 respectively.
Corinne Bailey Rae’s comeback album after 4 years ‘The Sea’ enters the chart at #5.
The UK top 10:
1. (1) Owl City: ‘Fireflies’
2. (-) Jedward ft. Vanilla Ice: ‘Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)’
3. (17) Timbaland ft. Katy Perry: ‘If We Ever Meet Again’
4. (2) ‘Glee’ Cast: ‘Don’t Stop Believin’
5. (7) Alicia Keys: ‘Empire State Of Mind (Part II)’
6. (3) Iyaz: ‘Replay’
7. (4) 3OH!3 ft. Katy Perry: ‘Starstrukk’
8. (6) JLS: ‘One Shot’
9. (8) Journey: ‘Don’t Stop Believin’
10. (9) Example: ‘Won’t Go Quietly’
And I, for one, am mighty pleased about it. Here in the UK, they were uber-annoying, and it seems Vanilla Ice would do anything for a quick buck.
