Single Review: Mary J Blige - I Am
Mary J Blige - I Am
“I Am” is Mary J Blige’s second single from her upcoming album “Stronger with Each Tear” which will be released on the Christmas week. Mary yet again is capitalizing on the Christmas sale period which works for her. She did sell 600k on her first week 2 years back during that period.
So back to “I Am“, i prefer this track than her lead single, “The One” which features Drake. This track is co-written by Mary herself and produced by Stargate. Although i kinda like it, it does sound like a typical Mary J song. At first when i saw the title of the song, it reminded me of her other track, “Take Me As I Am” (from her previous album, The Breakthrough). Somehow i wish she would just breakout from her shell and so something totally different.

the intro sounds like an earlier hit “everything.” the sound has pure emotion and raw power only mary can deliver. no other singer can deliver that much passion and grit to a song than mary does, not even whitney houston’s perspiration can count as soulful as mary performances.
