NOOOO!!!! This is a piece of extremely depressing news to me. =( In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Sophie suggested that she migh give up on music if her upcoming album doesn’t do well!!! =(
Sophie Ellis-Bextor has suggested that she would give up on music if her new material is not successful because her sound is at the height of its popularity.
The singer, who is gearing up for the release of her new album Straight To The Heart, said that her disco sound is musically on-trend, using Bloc Party and Snow Patrol’s recent output as an example.
She told the Daily Star: “There’s a been a resurgence in the power of DJ. You only have to look at the fact that Bloc Party and Snow Patrol’s last singles had a trance edge.
“This is the longest gap I’ve ever had between records, but if I can’t make it work in this climate I should give up because everything is ’80s, a bit electro synthy and disco.
“That’s exactly what I’ve been doing, but the new songs are a bit harder. It’s the best stuff I’ve done. So let’s have a go.”
Sophie is pretty much underappreciated. She’s a talent, no doubt about it. It’s just that there should be intense marketing and promotion to made. Both “Heartbreak” and “Bittersweet” are destined to be dance classics by critics. She deserves some success.
So, in the future, I would only stream her stuff and post legal links regarding Sophie. She’s too good to quit!! SUPPORT AND BUY HER MUSIC!!!
In other news, the B-side to “Bittersweet” is the awesome “Sophie Loren“!!! This song is featured in a Rimmel ad that she fronted. Can’t wait to hear this song in full!!!
If Sophie gives up making music then I will give up listening to music… Whether her music sells big or not, she is amazing. Her music is just perfect and I think that, from the sound of it, her new album will sail to the top of the charts <3
This is awful news. I truly support her music but I lean more towards purchasing music in digital format, and the US market does not seem to carry an extensive SEB digital music catalogue. She has a bigger market in the UK and Europe as a whole than in the US, I think. But I certainly love her music and her videos and I hope that she does not give up on music.
sad
(((
Im in the U.S , I heard Murder On The Dancefloor and Groovejet on A digital dance station (BPM) I was hooked instantly!!! Recently, i went onlone to see Ms. Bextor in video form, I then became a fan!! I’m glad for youtube! I watched “Love Is Here” very good tune. Please Sophie don’t give up!!! I would like to see a dvd with videos Hopefully soon in the USA!!! Please do a greatest hits cd/dvd!!! I will truly miss your brillant talent!!
Nooooo. I hope she’s just thinking off the top of her head in that interview. There are too many people out there, like me, who love her.
There is never a time when Sophie’s voice & music doesn’t brighten my day.
Any updates or current news about Sophie??
Let’s not forget that she got pregnant at the time of release of her second album and didn’t promote it. She also scrapped the tour that would have supported the third album. If she does things right, then this album might end up doing well. =D
I Hope there will be a video release of Sophie’s amazing videos in the U.S. ASAP!! its a shame Mtv and vh1 don’t give the proper air time, She DESERVES!!!! Where was GrooveJet orginally featured on Spiller’s cd??
