Not Myself Tonight
The world premiere of Christina Aguilera’s lead single, Not Myself Tonight just happened like moments ago, literally! This Polow Da Don produced track is the lead single for her upcoming album, Bionic.
Boy! Damn it’s hot! It’s been a while since Christina released a hot club banger. When i heard a 18 sec preview a few days ago, i wasn’t keen on the track. I was a bit disappointed. But the full version, just blowed my mind away and it made me “lose my mind” (quoting Christina). The track is a mix of R&B, Hip Hop and Electro beats all in one track. Polow really did his magic for this one!
But then again i’m bias. So i let you be the judge. So do you like it? As Christina sings, “and if you don’t like it fuck you.”

Sounds like something from Britney’s Blackout album. Hot, but a little passé…
Im in love with this because I usually dislike Xtina’s music. It lacks a particular commercial style and I often find her a confused artiste. If she’s gonna be about class, she needs better substance on her lyrics. If she’s gonna be all crack is whack, she needs the Britney boob juggle.
I really do agree that this is the Blackout for Xtina because what you’re in love here is the production value of this track and Christina provides enough vocal hooks to keep the music blazing. Finally, she’s stepping outta the basic box.
sounds like Justin’s “Sexy Back”!
May sound a bit like a track from Blackout, but not hype enough. Just too cheesy! I’d say it sounds more like something from Stripped. Christina has MAD pipes but seems to miss the mark most times. This is Dirty part II and it doesn’t quite work with where music has moved since then! Seems like she’s going back to the one thing people really responded to (Stripped) and that was in 2002. To be fair, I’ve been looking forward to this new album and am excited to hear the rest of the sound it brings, but this song is just weak. Overall, I’m not impressed and left feeling let down.
i know she’s christina and she can’t do without the “yeah and the ahh belts” , but it seems like it was inappropriate for this song. without those, the song will still be great because she had powerful lines to deliver already prepared on some parts. she could’ve just reserved those jungle calls on live performances. anyway, just as i thought so, she would still not let go of belting because that would be a career suicide for her. still, that’s what sets her apart even from all the beyonces and the gagas. i hope she would also get rid of her habit of stooping down when hitting powerful notes. that habit is her way of calling attention for people to focus on her bellowing. well people had ENOUGH of those already. our ears are sore and tired with them. come on, those notes can still be hit even on an upright position girl! when she always stoops down just to deliver mid-range notes it sends out the message that “christina needs all the power in the world just to get those easy notes right.” not good girl for someone inthe rollingstones greatest singers list. she wud hav just featured britney on this song 2 do d whispers @ the beginning & end part. i’m a xtina fan, but im not ashamed 2 say tht d sound of this track is very britney. come on let’s jst accept it. chris herself said that she’s finally letting her guard down 4 bionic. so it wud really not b surprising if there wud b sounding similarities w/ other artists’ previous works. d fact is tht it’s xtina bangin over the mainstream garbage… & so tht wud take sumtin random 2 a whole nu level. just hold onto that!

I like it!!! Love the crunchy, crackly bass and it does sound like a continuation from the ‘Dynamite’ sound from ‘Keeps Getting Better’. Hmm. For some reason, the cover reminds me of ‘Jennifer’s Body’?
Now here’s my take on the single:
I do agree with Djbronzed that it sounded like “Dirrty” part 2 due to the urban sound of it. Both songs are rather cohesive side by side. Given all the hype and saying she going for a futuristic sound, this song would be rather out of place in the album. The songs penned by Sia, Ladytron, Switch and Le Tigre for the album would probably sound so much better. Even “Lift Me Up” is emotionally moving. URGH, if Flo Rida is really on the guest spot of a song in this album, I’m speechless.
This song is probably out just to feed the fans appetite. It’s not bad, but sounds that it’s made for the radio and rather generic. There are some parts I do love (like the end of each verses). I was just hoping that it would be on the same league as Genie 2.0. More electronic and organic sounding. I’ll say this album needs a distinct direction or it’ll be lost in translation.
Oh, and never compare Brit with Christina. Both are world’s apart. With this track, it’s heard of but with a decent production.

i’ve been listening to this for the past days and it’s dope! i agree that this isn’t exactly futuristic-sounding… but then again, xtina has MAD vocals and this genre doesn’t exactly suit her as all the synthesizers only serve to make up for lack lustrous vocals (cue Britney), cos xtina has IT! lift me up really showcases her chops and i do hope it’s in the album (thou again it’s not exactly futuristic…) really liked her Stripped album, her Back to basics album, hope she doesn’t disappoint this time… it’s been a long four years!
Xtina’s back step aside kiddies. The queen is back. I must admit I was a bit nervous but the new her is just as good or even better than the old. The song is fun and catchy but still powerful and addictive. Anybody who doesn’t like it as Xtina wonderfully sang, “f#$% you”.
I really love this song….. But I don’t get how people say that its like Britney and yet everybody is accusing her sounding like Lady Gaga? So who’s the electro pop queen Britney or Lady Gaga…. To me this sounds like abit of Timberlakes Sexy back… But the when the drums come in before the hook… it dammm hot… and the ending is blooding AMAZING!! So yeah LOVE IT!!!

I don’t like comparing artists, but everyone seems to be doing so with this new record, therefore I thought I would reveal my opinions too.
It’s really strange to me that the comparisons of Christina are with the likes of Lady Gaga and Britney Spears. Christina has amazing vocals which the other two artists lack. She is unique, talented and a strong female role model.
For me, Lady Gaga hides behind her outrageous fashion outfits and strange onstage antics. Although she is a classically trained musician, a good songwriter and an exciting artist she does not have a great singing voice when compared to Aguilera.
As for Britney Spears I don’t even know how she could be used in the same sentence as Christina musically and artistically.

oh stop it! britney’s not even close to christina’s talent… let’s just trash that whole idea behind.anyone with a good sense of analyzing would know that britney & christina comparison is so overrrrrrr!!!! christina’s just a talented artist & she excels in everything she does so let’s just celebrate coz the one and only artist of this generation is back!
