There are some things that are just out of your control. In this case, you simply cannot, so he should have accepted it. Leona Lewis never made a big fuss out of it. Even though she sang the single.

There are other artists that have gone through this situation before, so before he opens his mouth next time. Don't think you're the only one facing this, others have and you cannot control it. Sometimes it's just a case of luck, material content, good PR and marketing. Otherwise a great song will just go down the drain and no one will know of it. I'd rather like to know what the hell Marketing and PR are doing with Leona's single. They must be sleeping. >_<

Yeah, his comments are bunk. Maybe the flop with "Happy" was that it wasn't a great song to begin with? And the pop charts have always supported a wide range of musical styles at the same time, even if one particular genre is enjoying an obvious success. How to explain the huge success of Owl City's "Fireflies" amid all the dance music? Maybe because "Fireflies" is a good song?

I think he's totally wrong. As someone who lives in Miami Beach, I agree that it is easier to launch a career in the US with songs that are catchy/upbeat, but not impossible. There are many famous artists in the US that are proof of this. I think the problem is that people in the U.S. know some of Leona Lewis' songs (bleeding love), but not who sings them. If an artist is going to focus solely on soft ballads than catchy and upbeat pop tunes, then they have to accept the fact that there is just a smaller market for that genre. It didn't help that one of the best songs on her album shares the name with a song Ashlee Simpson released about two years ago. In the end, it's all marketing and PR, and Leona's team sucks.

Couldn't agree more... Dance is the fever but there is always room for other genres. Maybe not no 1, but at least a top 10 perhaps?

I think HAPPY is good but not brilliantly good, compare to last decade bleeding love and we belong together... it lack the element of "Oommh!!!!!". The Leona Lewis sophomore flopness I rather blame its management to blurr out the chance for making her a all round diva rather than just a ballad singer.... makes me wonder, is it they are trying to make ways for Alexandra Burke, which on the other hand them both have many in commons, with Alex able to put off a up-beat track... Leona still had not show her dancey beat yet.
