Goldfrapp - Rocket
Here’s something exciting that’ll brighten up a gloomy, slow month. It’s quite an uneventful music month in January (except for the release of Roisin Murphy’s “Momma’s Place“). Condolences to what has happened at Haiti too. Life sure’s unpredictable. Sigh.
Im actually very excited about this release, since British Electronic Duo, Goldfrapp, took an unexpected turn towards folk from earlier synth-based albums and I *Hearts* Supernature. Finally they’re going back to their roots to syth!!!
A press release issued ahead of the release describes the band’s fifth album as their most powerful trip to date, a speedy rush of synth optimism, euphoria, fantasy and romance. With life affirming lyrics and stellar production it lifts off at full tilt and takes us on a journey to the heart of 2010. Sounds good eh???
The first single, “Rocket” has been released as a digital download in Australia, Germany and Ireland as of 22nd January 2010. The chorus reminds me of Al Corley’s “Square Rooms“, which disco and retro fanatics would know. The vibe of “Rocket” is very 80’s disco-lite with a modern update sound. I still prefer the harder and darker sound like the songs from ”Supernature“, but this single has it’s quality. Has the potential of having a heavy airplay. The single will release officially on 8th March 2010.
High expectations are also set for the album, and expected to be a mix between Seventh Tree (2008) and earlier synth albums like Black Cherry and Supernature.
