News: Rihanna’s Rated-R Costs $0.99

Rihanna’s comeback album Rated-R is said to be on the road to being a real flop.

According to Billboard:

Rihanna’s “Rated R” is said to be underperforming expectations so far in its debut week, “which is weird because she is on television everywhere talking about Chris Brown and a lot of teenagers are looking up to her,” says the head of purchasing at a wholesale account.

But others point out that Rihanna usually doesn’t have a big first week on a new release. “Good Girl Gone Bad,” her best-selling title with 2.5 million units, according to Nielsen Soundscan, tallied 162,000 units in its debut week for the period ended June 10, 2007. That’s in line with current projections for “Rated-R,” as provided to Billboard by major label sales and distribution executives

Def Jam has also dropped the price to $3.99 and then finally to $0.99 as a Black Friday special.

IMO, $0.99 is utter madness, she might as well stop producing those albums
and sit down and have coffee that would cost more than her album.

All the best to her, hopefully the price doesn’t drop any further.

  1. I can’t lie…I think the price drop speaks about Rihanna’s drastic switch in style.
Lead single ‘Russian Roulette’ was a bold move, and don’t get me wrong, I love the song, but the whole album feels a complete 180 from GGGB.
I’m all in favor of Riri growing up, but I can’t deny that I miss the good club banger tracks that ‘Please Don’t Stop the Music’ and ‘Breakin’ Dishes’ were. Not to mention, there is not a close Umbrella-esque smash anywhere on the disc IMO.

  2. I really love Rihanna. She makes a music that is my kind of music. She is pretty and sexy too.
