It’s a known fact that Britney Spears lip-syncs in most (if not all) of her performance due to her intense choreography and certain other reasons. But now, it’s creating a big hoo-haa down under and it’s only her show of first tour ever in Australia.
According to Australian news reports, disgruntled fans left Spears’ show in Perth after only three songs into the concert, complaining of a lackluster performance, apparent lip-synching and their inability to see Spears on the jumbo screens onstage. (Source)
“We are really big Britney fans, but it was crap,” Josh Blee complained to Australia’s News Limited newspapers. “I thought after the music awards she would make up for it with a wicked concert, but she has let us down.”
“Britney is aware of all this and she’s extremely upset by it,” Paul Dainty, Brit’s tour promoter, told The Australian newspaper on Monday. “She’s a human being. I’m embarrassed, with such a big international entourage here with Britney, to be part of the Australian media when I see that kind of totally inaccurate reporting.” (Source)
The Fair Trade Minister for the state of New South Wales, Virginia Judge, even suggested concert tickets should carry disclaimers about whether parts of concerts were pre-recorded and mimed. “It is Britney’s ‘prerogative’ to lip-sync, and it is my job to make sure consumers know what they are paying for up front,” Judge said in a statement released by the government.
LOL! What one Britney Spears concert show can do to a government and a whole country continent!
You know, when I saw all the footage from the MJ This is it concert rehearsals and many MANY other concert rehearsal footage from other very well known artists, guess what, if you bother to take any notice, 80% of the lyrical performance is backing recorded and purposefully blended over the top of sung lyrics live during most performances. Britney just screwed up by announcing it publicly…or should I say, her “representatives” screwed up by ‘boasting about the fact she uses ‘majority’ pre-recorded backing.BUT geez, if it weren’t announced as it was, I don’t think anyone would have even noticed, nor would they have walked out. Who are the attention seekers here?
I refrain from naming names, but I have many years hands on experience with the ‘blood, sweat & tears of preparing for these large concert performances. If people were so hung up about lip syncing we’d have over 600,000 people wanting a return on their money. Sounds like someone wanted to “upstage” Britney during her tour!
I was at the first concert and it was a handful of fans who walked out, the 18000 other fans were happy with the performance and I just think its the media trying to make a story where one didnt exist. People were happy and Britney was awesome.
Josh (who was quoted) is a friend of mine and he s just laughed over the attention his comment has gained!
As for the New South Wales government…lol…they are a joke over here…think corrupt, sleazy unpopular and u will realise why they try and make something to smokescreen their inability to govern!
Go Britney!
Britney Spears is no doubt the Queen of Pop. After all the controversies and negative image, she is still a very successful singer.
deejay, you are incorrect about MJ’s This Is It movie. This would have been his first concert where he would be singing and not lip-syncing since the Bad tour. If you bothered to see the film you’d know that there was no way he was lip-syncing, as half of the words were missing considering it was rehearsal footage. Britney is one of the last “performers” still lip-syncing. Even Ashlee Simpson is attempting to sing these days. Britney is a relic.
I am a fan of Britney Spears ever since the 90s, wayback then she was a very sweet teenage girl that everyone adores.
