Leighton Meester continues to impress everyone with her acting skills as the self-absorbed Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl. Besides that, she has lended her vocal skills on the Cobra Starship record, ‘Good Girls Go Bad’ which became a smash hit last summer. She has been talking about being in music for quite a while and she already signed a music deal with Universal Records. Her debut single, ‘Somebody To Love’ feature the sexy and charismatic Robin Thicke.

Leighton’s pop vocals seemed to be very indie sounding in this track. There’s enigma yet catchiness induced in some aspects of the songs. Although the verses are quite a bit boring, Robin Thicke amplified the phase of the song upon rendering his vocals on the second verse. In totality, it’s a midtempo semi-electro pop track with enough cutesy synthesisers warbling around the 3 and a half-minute debut. I’m surprised about the result of Leighton’s debut, I’m expecting something more energetic and more bubbly as compared to her personality. It’s not a solid debut but good enough for a first single, maybe it’s one of those disappointing debuts that gets better and better as the career progresses. Maybe.
