Hmm, I didn’t see this coming at all. Releasing a digital single in Japan (Sanctuary) and getting radio airplay in the US for “This One“.

First up is “This One (Crying Like A Child)“. Not a bad song choice, rather safe though. Going with the R&B ballad route. The official acoustic version gives me the chills. It does has a cover art and many sources revealed that it could be a single in the US and radio airplay for it is quite heavy in some parts of the states. Hopefully it’ll boost her album sales. The album peaked at number 69 when it was release in the physical CD format in May. She looked pregnant on the cover art btw. =X

As for Sanctuary, it is release as a digital single only in Japan. For those who’ve played the international release of Kingdom Hearts 2, it might sound familar as “Sanctuary” is the theme song for the video game. The japanese version of this song is titled “Passion“.

The “Opening Version” of the song is played during the opening movie. The more emotional “Closing” version is played after defeating the final boss of the game. Hence the 2 versions.

This 2 songs along with “Simple and Clean” (Kingdom Hearts 1) is the bonus tracks on Utada’s album, This Is the One, on the US physical CD release.

Sanctuary is quite an earthly song, nothing similar compared to the other songs in the TITO album. It’s kinda like a new age track. Definitely not conventional for the US market. That’s why it’s only release in Japan I guess.
